September 2004
Fun Fair
This year's Fun Fair was a huge success. Following on the heels of Ailyn Lum, who ran the Fun Fair for the last 10 years, Angie Pahia's first year turned out to be quite a day. Rearranging the locations of the food, craft, and scouting booths and having mechanical rides along with the bounce houses allowed for a fun and successful day for everyone. The wind, rain, or mud had no chance of spoiling this Fun Fair.

Photos of the Fun Fair are posted next to the library and will be on the Ohana website soon.

More sought to attend meetings and participate in the 'Ohana
Tuesday, March 23, 2004

Just as you watch the news on TV, you should come to Ohana meetings to get the latest school news from the principal, the faculty, and the members of the ‘Ohana. You can have your finger right on the pulse of what affects your child’s day.

UN-like watching the news, YOU can give your opinion and change things. For example, what’s your opinion on:

  • Changing the traffic pattern in the student drop-off area?

  • Adding weather protection for the stairs to the lower parking?

  • Choosing a design and color of the new Ahuimanu T-shirt?
  • We need to have more people come to our meetings to add ideas and opinions to better our school. The Ohana exists to enrich each child’s learning environment. Come and help us do this!!:
  • When?   2nd Tuesdays at 6 to 7:45 p.m. (Hearty pupus served. You don’t have to stay the whole time.)

  • Where?    Library

  • Questions?   Call me at 239-2998
  • Can’t come at all? Log onto www.AhuimanuOhana.net website and check out what was covered at the last meeting. Voice your opinion about school issues by sending e-mail to our website master at whatsup@ahuimanuohana.net

    Talk Story Session
    Wednesday, February 11, 2004

Parents of Ahuimanu 5th and 6th Graders who are considering enrolling their children at King Intermediate were invited to a Talk Story Session put on by Valzey Freitas as part of her Workshop series on Parenting.

Along with Ahuimanu Principal Bob Lockyer, King Intermediate Principal Cynthia Chun gave a very thorough overview of what King has to offer intermediate grade children, spoke of King's successes and difficulties, fielded questions form parents, and helped to dispel rumors about a reputation that goes way back.

Ahuimanu’s Enola Mutch shared her own experiences with her daughter’s attendance at King to assure some of the other parents and stressed parent involvement as key to any child's success in a school environment.

Mrs. Cynthia Chun has offered to assist with any questions and concerns and can be reached at cynthia_chun/king/hi.doe@notes.k12.hi.us
