Vice President’s Report
Yvonne reviewed list of potential vendors for next years' fundraisers. She and Valzey will be visiting stores such as Foodland & Safeway that donates percentages of purchases to schools. She also reminded members that vendors would be making their presentations during the June Ohana meeting.

PTSA: Discussion took place on ongoing process to obtain PTSA membership. Yvonne mentioned a requirement that a contact person be listed on the application. She questioned whether we should wait until after the upcoming Ohana elections so the new president can be listed. Another requirement is that Ohana needs to submit a list of members to the PTSA office on the 5th of every month. Wayne moved and Robert seconded to approve funds necessary for PTSA membership. Motion was carried unanimously.

Yvonne announced that the nomination ballots for Ohana elections need to go out by April 27th and be returned by May 2, 2005.

The Ohana is still looking for chairpersons for the Fun Fair/Fall/Spring Fundraisers.

Committee Reports:

a. Shirts
Lee shared that there are still a lot of shirts in inventory.

b. SCC
Anne Marie said that the SCC had their first meeting on April 12, 2005. Members reviewed the State guidelines and by-laws. The process of closing out old SCBM business will soon be completed. State training for SCC members to begin soon.

c. Workshop
Science night was a tremendous success. Everyone shared how much he or she enjoyed the activities.

Parent University will be held towards the ending of May. Kailani reported how parents need to involve their children in activities that will continue to keep their children's mind sharp during the summer break. A calendar of educational activities such as the Aquarium, Bishop Museum, etc…will be provided to help achieve this result.

d. Membership
Discussion of reason for PTSA membership took place. The benefits of low cost insurance, bonding; etc… for Ohana sponsored events was shared. Lee offered to do membership again next year, but not under the current guidelines. He objected to the way funds are co-mingled such as when membership dues were received together with payments for tee shirts. Lee shared the difficulty of separating and accounting for the different revenues. He strongly believes that these items should be separated. Anne Marie suggested that Lee review the forms before they go out next year and make corrections as necessary to avoid such problems.

e. Student Council
Anne Marie shared that the council is hard at work planning Earth Day activities for grades K through 3. They are stressing the importance of caring for the Aina.

Planning for next week's Flag Pole Assembly is on going. The assembly will begin promptly at 7:50 a.m.

Anne Marie was proud to announce that the Kaneohe Marine Unit is back. She will be meeting with two Marine representatives tomorrow. They definitely want to help out with next week's Wog-a-thon. Request for funds was suggested so that Marine's will have a place to congregate while visiting the school next week at Flag Pole Assembly. She said they definitely want to visit the classrooms to thank the students for all the letters and goodies that they received while they were in Iraq.

Discussion also took place on the Marine collage that James had put together. Anne Marie suggested that 11 be made: 10 for the families of the 10 fallen Marines and 1 to be displayed at Ahuimanu.

Flag assembly was last week.

f. PCNC
Movie Night has been cancelled due to scheduling difficulties. Kailani said we definitely want to have a Movie Night next year.

Kailani also reported that a "Report Card Workshop" is being planned for the fall to help parents to understand the new report card. The new report card is transitional. It is scheduled to change again in 2 years.

"Jump Rope for Heart" will take place on May 13th. It will be a low-key event. This is being conducted as an educational opportunity for students. Unfortunately, it is taking place to close to the Wog-A-Thon. Fundraiser for "Jump Rope for Heart" is optional. We didn't want to put too much of a drain on family funds.

g. Fun Fair
Ailyn Lum and Debra Irvelino volunteered to help with the Fun Fair.

h. Fall Fundraiser
None.

i. Spring Fund Raiser
Wog-A-Thon is set to go next week Friday, April 29, 2005. The children are excited. It'll be a great day and we're happy that the Marines from Bravo Company will be helping out again.

j. Playground
Robert reported that the cleanup day was a huge success. The students from Iolani and Punahou worked really hard and did a terrific job. Anne Marie mentioned that the boys who were painting the Kiln Room were actually ILH Cross-Country track rivals. It was nice seeing them work well, talk, and laugh together. Representative Colleen Meyer also came by to thank the students.

k. Faculty
Leighton reported on the ongoing HSAT testing process. Test results need to be received by August 15th. Discussion took place on cancellation of Harcourt's contract. Leighton mentioned that the company would re-bid on the new contract.

l. Administration
May 11th is Volunteer Recognition Day. Ahuimanu will be honoring all of their hard working volunteers to a delicious lunch. Robert confirmed immediately to Ann Marie that he would be attending. He remembers how good the luncheon was last year.

The 5-R's project is continuing to grow in the Castle Complex. Other schools are scrambling in incorporate the 5-R's into their policy curriculums.

Anne Marie said students are really trying their best. She will be suggesting that the language on the test be put into "Kid Language" in the future.

Last Professional Day (PD) of the year will be on Friday, May 6th. There will be no school that day.

A+ Program will have their "End of the year Extravaganza," on Thursday, May 5th at 6:30 p.m.

We're into the final leg of the 21st Century Grant. The remaining funds will be used to purchase 5 new computers for the school. A lot of new books will also be purchased for grades 4 & 6.

Anne Marie shared student letters that will be sent to our sister school in Osawa, Japan. She hoped that someday in the near future there could be a student's exchange between the two schools. That would be very educational for all involved.

Kumu Kaleo is teaching all 5th grades, 1-6th grade class, and 1-2nd grade class.

Unfortunate incident: a 5th grade student was found with marijuana on campus. He was arrested. His parents are being very cooperative. The police were very professional in their conduct. The student is in counseling with Anne Marie.

Grades 3 & 4 will present their version of a Shakespearean play at WCC's Piliku Theatre. Dress rehearsal will be during the day on Thursday, May 19th. The performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. that night. Director is Castle Complex Performing Arts teacher Richard MacPherson.

Talent Show will be on Friday, May 20th at 6:30 p.m. Anne Marie asked if Ohana could do a number. Further discussion is needed. Perhaps Valzey can come up with a song/dance number for the Ohana to perform together.
