Treasurer’s Report
Julie mentioned that she just received the bank statements earlier this week delaying the Treasurer's Report. The report will be distributed at a future date.

President’s Report
Valsey mentioned that Yvonne is busy completing applications for PTSA membership. Yvonne mentioned some difficulty with the forms, which were developed along a "business" focus. The forms would ask such questions as "How many employees do you have?" She is requesting assistance in completing forms from Nancy Cullen-Windward District Regional Coordinator for Hawaii State PTSA.

Vice President’s Report
None.

Committee Reports:

a. Shirts
None.

b. SCBM
Brian shared that the cost of presenting flags to families of fallen marines is costly.

A lengthy discussion took place on progress of SCC elections, ballot creation and mailing procedures. Confidentiality and accountability were key issues focused upon. Ballots will be accompanied by candidate biographies so voters can make informed decisions. Ann Marie shared that the student council will assist in the mailing of ballots. Ballots will be mailed out March 1, 2005 with a return due date of March 4, 2005.

c. Workshop
Science Night will be held Friday, April 15, 2005 in the cafeteria. Informative booths, activities, and career stations will be set up. Students and parents alike are in for a wonderful treat.

Ann Marie mentioned that Mr. Ellis would be providing a "Test Taking Strategies" workshop in March 2005. She also suggested Windward Community College's Imaginarium as a possible workshop next year. Parents really seemed to enjoy the WCC exhibit.

d. Membership
None.

e. Student Council
Busy collecting pennies for the tsunami victims.

They also made the final selection of next year's planner covers. Ann Marie held a quick selection contest among Ohana members. Interestingly, the choices of Ohana members and students differed substantially. Ohana members overwhelmingly chose the "Flag" cover. The students overwhelming choice was the 3-D "Astronaut/Undersea Diver" cover. Lee shared that if not for the flag choice, he too would have chosen the 3-D "Astronaut/Undersea Diver" choice.

f. PCNC
Ann Marie praised Kailani for planning a very successful Grandparents Day. More attendees showed up that expected. But everyone piled into the cafeteria for a fun time.

g. Fun Fair
None.

h. Fall Fundraiser
None.

i. Spring Fund Raiser
Wog-a-Thon scheduled for April 29, 2005. Valsey stated that Cut-Master Spaz might be the deejay that day. Ann Marie will try to get military personnel to help. Valsey also offered to contact Marimed for help.

j. Playground
None.

k. Faculty
Working hard on writing and math prompts. Teachers also working diligently to improve the level of curriculum. They are determined to have "No Corrective Actions" regarding "No Child Left Behind" act. Ahuimanu is very fortunate that the faculty takes this action very seriously.

Career Day (two sessions) will be held on March 2, 2005. Presentations will be held in classrooms on different careers. Past careers covered were: Veterinarians, Stuntmen, Paramedics, doctors, lawyers, drug enforcement officers, bank managers, etc.

l. Administration
Articles for Kani Kolea are due next Wednesday, February 23, 2005.

Calendar for next school year will be available in draft form. Parents can plan around this calendar because the major items such as days off will not change.

Midori Sagawa, a visitor from Osawa Elementary School (Our Sister School in Kishigawa, Japan) toured Ahuimanu. She came to spend some time learning about schools in America and especially observing a "typical day" at Ahuimanu. She was very impressed by the children and how things are done here.

The Iolani School workday was cancelled due to rain. It was rescheduled to Saturday, April 9, 2005.

CPAC thanks the Ohana for helping fund the bus fare and admission tickets for Ahuimanu students.

Ahuimanu thanks Taylor Ishida's mother for winning a computer for our school.

Ahuimanu also thanks the Ohana for funding the Banana Slugs performers. The children really enjoyed their show.

Congratulations to the 4th & 5th grade GT students that made the video finals. These students will be recognized at a ceremony at the Ihilani Resorts.

"Read to Me" is a program that teaches parents how to read stories to their children. Lois to review video to see if this is a program Ahuimanu might want to sponsor.

Ann Marie to be shadowed by Terri George, Castle Foundation (CF). He reviews grants for CF. He wants to see how things are done at Ahuimanu.

m. Communications
James mentioned that Act 51 was added to the website. It is also in "PDF" format and can be downloaded. He is redoing the SCBM portion of the website and working on a Marine Memorial picture. Ann Marie suggested that James make the SCC site link back to the DOE site.

Request for Funds
A grandparent is requesting Ohana to fund her child's 6th grade Kauai trip. Lee discussed that it would set a precedent if approved. Valsey stated that children should be able to earn the money for the trip. Wayne shared that there are ample opportunities for 6th graders to raise needed money. The request was denied.

Steve Jenkins requests $50.00 to fund 2 students at the "P.E." meet to be held at Kaiser High School. Wayne moved and Lee seconded that the request be approved. The motion was approved unanimously.

New Business/Parental Concerns
Ann Marie shared that morning drivers are making a lot of right turns on Hui Aeko Place. There have already been two collisions. People still don't understand that they should not make right turns. Ann Marie wants to sit down with some members to brainstorm for traffic solutions.

Adjournment/Next Meeting
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 6 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by:
