'Ohana Meeting January 20th, 2004

Bob Lockyer, Lee Hopkinson, Wayne Iseri, Leighton Sakamoto, David Lau, James Garrett, Kendra Sevigny, Linda Kinoshita, Robert Maeshiro, and Yvonne Turro.
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 6:12 p.m. Oven roasted chicken and potatos along with Aloha Maid drinks were for refreshments. First meeting with interim principal Bob Lockyer and without principal Anne Marie Duca. Mr. Lockyer gives a few words about his position at King Intermediate as Vice Principal and his background.
Approval of Minutes
Minutes from the December meeting were not available.
Treasurer’s Report
Review of balances were motioned and were unanimously accepted.
President’s Report
Lee contacted two T-shirt vendors and invited them to make presentations at this meeting. One would be attending this meeting. More in committee reports.
Yvonne Turro also has accepted the position as 'Ohana Vice president.
Committee Reports:
a. Shirts Of the two invited, one vendor attended this meeting and brought samples of the quality of the fabric of shirts, their costs, and explained the details of what to consider when designing a shirt. Due to computer problems, a preliminary design was not available for this meeting.
Recommendation was made to discontinue Xsmall for preschoolers. Discussion took place about a contest for the designing a new shirt by the students and agreement was made to move forward by focusing on the development of the new shirt for the next school year. The Student Council would be approached with the contest and VP Yvonne suggests that we seek out another bid from another vendor for producing the shirt.
b. SCBM David Lau reports about the last inspections and mentioned the upcoming meeting on Thursday the 27th at 2:30pm about standards and meeting criteria.
c. Workshop Kendra. Planning a Spring workshop in April that would be a parent participation workshop like the Christmas workshop. Valsey may also have another panel participation workshop in February.
d. Membership No report
e. Student Council No report
f. PCNC Brief comments made by David Lau.
h. Fall Fundraiser Not applicable
i. Spring Fund Raiser There may be a possible date for the Spring Wogathon.
j. Playground Special guest to the meeting was Leah Sales with 96744 United in Prayer. As a service she may be able to help with the upkeep of the playground and landscaping which could save the school 100.00 per month.
k. Faculty Mr. Sakamoto and Linda Kinoshita. Linda reports about report cards going home today, parent sub day, a workshop on writing, Castle complex day, more math training and Skerrit is coming in February An informal welcome was planned Thursday for the new principal that will include punch and snacks.
Lively discussion took place with Mr Sakamoto explaining about the new math series for the school. The faculty are in the process of using 6 differnt samples and seeing which ones they like.
CPAC is Feb 25 which is a wednesday which and be a long day with school out at 2:05pm.
The new music teacher is awesome and everyone is thrilled to have her.
l. Administration Bob Lockyer spoke a little about District meetings and mentioned the emphasis to align the schools to a common math curriculum. He also mentioned about Ahuimanu winning an Olelo award for the first video produced by the school.
m. Communications James Garrett. Some parents returned the flyers sent home with their children with their email addresses in response to joining an email list for notices and information to be sent from the 'Ohana.
Request for Funds Sharon Young requested 1000.00 to purchase 3 new weed whackers to keep the grounds in shape. The present weed whackers need to be replaced. Treasurer Wayne Iseri moves to accept the request and all motioned to accept.

Tabled for the next meeting, Lee asks the board to consider other goals for the 'Ohana.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday Fed 10th, 2003 at 6 p.m. in the school library.
