b. SCC
Lois announced that Christian Hartley was elected to fill Brian Ferguson's seat. She is very excited about serving on the SCC.

Lois attended a meeting at the Kailua Complex that dealt with what the legislature is doing about getting additional funding for schools whose budgets have been hit hard by the new weighted school average. Senator Bob Hogue, Representative Pono Chong, and Senator Cythia Thielen attended the meeting. It was a very informative program.

Lois will be contacting Nancy Cullen to see if a meeting can be set up at the Castle Complex to discuss these issues.

Lois also mentioned that a parent survey is being developed to determine how to increase parental involvement. It will be going out after the spring break.

c. Workshop
Kailani announced that the "Skipping through Story Land" workshop would be held on April 13, 2006.

Parent University and Kindergarten Prep workshops are also being planned.

Chris Duque from HPD will be holding a workshop - "The Dark Side of the Internet." No children will be allowed. He will demonstrate to parents how dangerous it is for children to use the internet without supervision. He'll pose as a 13 year old and parents will get a first hand view at how our children are preyed upon. Internet blocks set up for these unauthorized sites will be removed so this demonstration can take place.

Kindergarten and 1st graders are starting the "Arts in the School" program.

A memorable flag pole assembly was held. JPO's received a flag that was actually flown over the Camp Patriot Naval Base in Kuwait on October 5, 2005 at the request of Staff Sgt Gary Tani. The flag was flown to honor Ahuimanu Elementary School for its dedication and commitment to our military men and women in harm's way.

HSAT testing took place this week. Students are relieved that it's over. Many students said that the tests were very difficult.

The Silver Strings group from Canada came to entertain the children on Tuesday, March 14. The group was made up of 53 students. They put on a fantastic performance.
