AHUIMANU OHANA BOARD MEETING MINUTES

 

January 30, 2007

 

Present

 

Yvonne Turro, Robert Maeshiro, James Garrett, Mrs. Duca, Dianne Kellet, Lois Upton, Beth Hendrix, Bryan Ferguson and Darrin (shirt vendor and parent).

 

Call to Order

 

The meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m.

 

Introductions: None

 

Approval of Minutes

 

Lois moved and Robert seconded for minutes of November 28, 2006 be approved.  Motion was carried unanimously.

 

 

Treasurer’s Report Bryan report balances to Board. Balances reflect Fall Fundraiser income.

 

President’s Report – None.

 

Committee Reports

 

a.        Shirts

 

Darin shared designs developed by his company. James shared another design. Darrin will integrate James’ ideas into another set of designs. Robert will coordinate with Melissa to coordinate for Student Council to decide on the final shirt design.

 

Decided to stick with ONE (1) color shirt for easier tracking and distribution.

 

b.        SCC

 

Lois reports “Academic & Financial Plan” has been submitted 1/3/07. Budget balanced and won’t be losing any teacher positions next year.

 

Election results for Parent Teacher Conferences to be held in 2 all-day sessions rather than partial-day in 1 week. Request for waiver days submitted for two staff development days and the two days for parent/teacher conferences. 

 

c.        PCNC/Workshop

 

  1. Feb. 7th - Family lunch
  2. Feb. 16th – Grandparents Day
  3. March 14th – Math Night led by Ms. Liz Schowalter
  4. April - Science Night

$600 grant received to use toward a science program

Bishop Museum Holoholo Sciene Program is $800 for < 1500 attendees, $1100 < 300 people.

Ohana to provide $500 balance; see Request for Funds below.

  1. May(?) – Financial Literacy led by Valsey Frietas
  2. Potential workshops:

a.   State Civil Defense Disaster Preparedness; invite Red Cross on same night?

             b.   Windward Community College Imaginarium night

 

d.        Student Council – None.

 

e.  Fun Fair

 

Seeking Fun Fair co-chair for upcoming fall event who will take over as chairperson the following year.

Mrs. Duca to ask Greg Leong to continue to co-chair this year.

 

i.  Spring Fundraiser - Late April/early May. Sharon Navarat and Beth Hendrix to co-chair the event.

 

j.  Faculty – Margi Almony and Liz Schowalter attending State HSA Workshop which will cover acceptable responses on the HSA.

 

k.    Administration

 

HSA Testing from April 9th to 13th. American Institute of Research was selected after Harcourt was dismissed as the company that will design and grade the tests. There will also be one (1) National Terra Nova test.

 

Jade Bright received “Teacher of Promise Award”.

 

There are currently eight (8) student-teachers at Ahuimanu.

 

Starting in Jan. 2008 – Ahuimanu is scheduled to be refurbished (painting, white boards to replace chalk boards, etc.

 

Evacuation drill – Kids and faculty did very well with procedures. All safety drills practiced monthly.

 

School Quality Surveys should be completed and returned by the select parents who received them.

 

 

L. Membership/Communications

 

School in Scotland wrote an e-mail to our Ohana website. James corresponded.

 

40 Christmas cards sent to Ohana members. Will investigate sending more out next year to those who actively support the Ohana.

 

Request for Funds

 

$1400 for math and art teacher, Dorinda Lum, approved by a unanimous vote of the Board.

 

$500 for Science Night approved. See description above under “Workshops”.

 

New Business/Parental Concerns - None
